K65

A project I have been wanting to start for years, K65 is a photographic, mystery narrative exploring the legend of a disappearing Nazi train rumored to be carrying over 300 tons of gold and other valuables. The train disappeared in the last months of the second world war between the cities of Wrocław and Wałbrzych at the trainlines 65KM marker with the area now being known as K65. Many have tried searching for the treasure over the years with the search gaining international news coverage back in 2015 when I first heard about location.

Years after the train disappeared Project Rises (German for giant) was discovered in the area, a huge network of underground tunnels connecting the near by Książ Castle with its surrounding woodland. The bunker can be accessed from this woodland, and it was initially designed to store Nazi higher ups. The bunker itself was built by prisoners of war, who were subjected to horrific conditions during the construction. Many unfortunately didn’t survive. The bunker has a trainline running through it and with a lot of the tunnel collapsed more and more people speculate that the bunker and missing train are connected.

So, I gathered a team of 7, 3 drivers, a navigator, a translator and me and my assistant photographer and headed to Wroclaw to begin our journey. Our trip took 10 days in total and took us across the whole country with us driving a total 1400km. The project explores greed and the harsh history of Europe while also being an ode to the polish landscape. The project will also be popular with Bristol's polish community with the country feeling rarely well represented.
